When the Inter-faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh needed new leadership, the non profit organization launched a nationwide search. The group didn’t have to look far to fill the vacancy.

The IFFS Board of Directors eventually selected Ron Pringle. He brings more than 20 years experience in helping to alleviate food insecurity in communities in North and South Carolina.

“I’m telling this story because I lived it,” Pringle said during a recent interview with WRAL. “There are children I would never meet, but I’m telling their story to ensure that when their parents go to a pantry, food is on the shelf.”

Pringle speaks from experience. He grew up one of four children. He lost his mother at a young age, leaving his Father as the lone breadwinner. He remembers some lean times but also a saving grace.

“My Grandmother knew of a place called the Food Trust," Pringle said. “I would often go with her to pick up food for the entire neighborhood.”

That childhood experience is at the heart of Pringle’s mission as President and CEO of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. He remembers that food bank was the reason he didn’t have to worry about his next meal.

“The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that work is worth doing.” Pringle said. “It’s not easy, but it’s always worth it.”

For Pringle, a dedicated family man, Black History Month is a time for him to reflect on his responsibility to his community and heritage.

“Regardless of color, if you’re able to have a shared vision, if you’re able to unite under one cause, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish,” Pringle said.

And so we salute Ron Pringle as we celebrate Black History Month.
