Blue Jay Point County Park's new playground is open. The project, which started in mid-November, replaced the park's well-loved but aging 20-year-old playground.

"This is a complete replacement of our wonderful yet aging previous structure that was 20 years old," Ben Wittenberg, the park's manager, shared with me in March. "A big shout out to our operations and maintenance team for keeping that equipment in safe, working order over the last several years."

Like the old playground, there is a section for kids ages two to five and five to 12. The park shared photos of it Tuesday on its Facebook page. It includes slides, balance beams, boulders, climbers, rubber surfacing, shaded seating, new spring rockers in the sand pit and swings, which is new for the park.

Blue Jay Point, at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Rd., Raleigh, is part of Wake County's parks system. The 236-acre park sits on the shores of Falls Lake in northern Wake County and also is home to lots of trails and open space, along with Go Ape, a ropes course that's now open for the season.
