Lidl Raleigh, Grand Opening, 11-16-17
In August 2021, details about a possible new Lidl in Garner, NC became available. As of July 2022, the store has not opened and for months, readers of the WRAL Smart Shopper Facebook page have been asking for additional information regarding the status of the store.

We reached out to Lidl and to the property management company for Garner Towne Square.

On July 19, 2022, a spokesperson for Brixmore Property Group, which handles the Garner Towne Square shopping center, shared the following statement with WRAL via e-mail:

"Thank you for your interest in Garner Towne Square. LIDL is currently under construction on their 30,795 square foot store. We defer to LIDL who prefers to announce their opening date."

The website for the Garner Towne Square shopping center property development company indicates that Lidl and Eggs Up Grill are coming soon. A new Harbor Freight is already open in part of the old Kroger store. The Site Plan shows that the Lidl and Eggs Up Grill restaurant will occupy part of the old Kroger location as well as another 4,000 sq. ft location that is still available.
Information about the possible new store was first shared in August 2021 on the Garner Biz Facebook page which indicated that the new Lidl would be located in the old Kroger store on Hwy 70.

The Garner Towne Square August 2021 Construction Newsletter also shows Lidl as a future tenant and there are signs with the Lidl name posted on the property.

We reached out to Lidl back in August 2021 for confirmation of the new store and a company spokesperson shared, "It is too early in the process to offer details on this site at this time, however we will be sure to keep in close contact with you as we have more to share in the future on sites in the Raleigh area. We look forward to continuing our expansion and serving more customers and communities."

Since then, we have reached out to Lidl multiple times for additional information on the progress of this location. Once the company provides additional details including an opening date, we'll update this article.

The last Kroger stores here in the Triangle shut their doors for good on August 11, 2018.

Many former Kroger locations were taken over by other grocery stores including Harris Teeter (which is owned by Kroger) and Carlie C's, but the Garner location was not one of those stores. Based on the comments from readers on the Garner Biz page, Garner residents are excited about the possibility of Lidl filling the large void that has existed since the Kroger left.
