SMITHFIELD, N.C. — After a series of delays, Tiffany Ann Bassett is to stand trial Monday in Cumberland County for the 2006 shooting death of her boyfriend in Johnston County.
Donald "Keith" West, was found dead in his bedroom July 18, 2006. Bassett is charged with first-degree murder.
Bassett's trial was scheduled for March, but a judge continued it because prosecutors turned over a file to defense lawyers five days before the case was to go to court.
In April, the trial was delayed indefinitely when the judge, E. Lynn Johnson, recused himself for undisclosed reasons.
Publicity in the case forced the court to change the trial venue from Johnston County to Cumberland County.
