RALEIGH, N.C. — The area's newest Costco opened Wednesday in the Garner area, and shoppers lined up outside as early as 1 a.m. to try to get their hands on a limited number of game consoles.

The store, located at 7800 Fayetteville Road, opened at 8 a.m. It is the largest Costco in the state.

A spokesperson for Costco said the store will have 150 PlayStation 5 consoles and an unknown number of Xbox consoles for customers. Both can be difficult to find, especially around the holiday season.

The store said shoppers must be Costco members to purchase the consoles. Employees will distribute tickets to customers to make sure people waiting in line for the high-demand products are able to take them home.

Only one Xbox or PlayStation 5 will be allowed per family.

The warehouse club is part of the Rand Village retail center at the intersection of N.C. Highway 401 and Ten Ten Road (northwest corner). Additional tenants will include Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, according to the Cambridge Properties website. These restaurants should be open by early 2022.
Costco is offering a special deal for new members. If you sign up on their website here as a new member and enroll in auto renewal, you'll receive a $20 Costco Shop Card as a new Executive Member, or a $10 Costco Shop Card as a Gold Star Member. The offer is valid at the Garner opening only and expires on Dec. 19.

With Wake Technical Community College, the Kings Grant Commons shopping center and several new neighborhoods all nearby, Costco selected a fast-developing area for its newest N.C. store.

The Town of Garner hopes the new businesses and the 540 construction project will help the town generate revenue.

A ribbon cutting will take place at Costco at 7:30 a.m.
