— North Carolina Central University's women's basketball team set the ball aside on Sunday to train as firefighters for the day.

The team participated in various fire drills as part of a team building exercise.

The Lady Eagle trained with female firefighters at Fire Station 12, off Poole Rd.

"They understand, they can relate -- dragging a hose with a group of people to the basketball court. You're only as strong as your weakest link. I think that they'll be able to see that even better," said Trisha Stafford-Odom, NCCU women's basketball head coach.

The Lady Eagles also participated in various leadership activities.

Stafford-Odom said this is the perfect time for her team to understand that what they bring to the table is valuable in any environment.
