Posted — UpdatedASHEBORO, N.C. — Mekita and Reilly's cubs won't be on exhibit until later in the fall, but the North Carolina Zoo posted a video sneak peek today on Facebook.
It's the first time since 2006 that the zoo has celebrated the birth of lion cubs. This little pack of four was born July 30, and zookeepers have yet to determine their gender.
It they are male, these babies will ultimately be separated from their parents, said Jennifer Ireland, an animal management supervisor. “In the wild, male cubs leave the pride they are born into. In addition, many AZA zoos are looking for lions, so our new cubs will eventually go to a new home.”
