NC Wanted: Police continue to search for driver who struck Carrboro man in wheelchair

Life dealt Glenn a troubled hand.

“All of a sudden, this car just came out of nowhere and he smacked me head on,” Glenn said.

Already in a wheelchair, Glenn was the victim of a hit-and-run crash on June 19, 2011.

“This has taken something from him,” Glenn’s sister, Shirley Johnson, said.

Johnson couldn’t bear to see her brother, bandaged and broken, lying in a hospital bed after everything he had already gone through in life.

“It made me so angry that someone would do that to a defenseless person,” Johnson said.

Glenn was on the Jones Ferry Road exit ramp off N.C. Highway 54 in Carrboro. He was returning home in his motorized wheelchair after buying his daily lottery ticket when he was hit.

“It’s enough clearance for cars and it’s enough clearance for people to be walking,” Glenn said.

Glenn suffered two broken legs and a broken elbow. The driver never stopped and nobody has been arrested for the crime.

“Say you’re sorry, you know. Say something because that person has taken something from my brother,” Johnson said.

“That hurts too, just as much,” Glenn said. “I like to forgive people, but it’s hard for me to even think about that right now.”

Police said the vehicle involved in the crash is a blue or green sedan with front-end damage. Anybody with information is asked to call 1-866-439-2683.
