North Carolina will hold a statewide general election on Nov. 8, 2022.

Who is running in North Carolina elections?

Races on the ballot in North Carolina's mid-term election include:

  • An open U.S. Senate seat: Republican Ted Budd and Democrat Cheri Beasley are running for the seat left open by the retirement of Richard Burr.
  • 14 U.S. House seats
  • State offices, including the General Assembly, Supreme Court and Court of Appeals
  • Local offices like district attorneys, county sheriff and county commissioners
WRAL partnered with WakeUP Wake County for a series of seven forums so that voters could hear from candidates running for Raleigh City Council and the mayor's office.
Make sure you are registered to vote – the deadline is Oct. 14.

How do I vote in North Carolina?

You can also register and vote on the same day during the early and in-person voting period, which begins Oct. 20 and ends on Nov. 5.
During early voting, North Carolinians can vote at any open polling place in their county.

How do I vote by mail?

North Carolina also offers an option to vote by mail. Ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 8, 2022, and received no later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 11. They can also be returned in person to any early-voting site during the early-voting period, or to the county board of elections office.

How can I learn more about the candidates and issues on the ballot?

Prepare to cast your ballot with in-depth looks at who is running – including the detailed candidate questionnaire – their answers, in their own words, to questions about their positions on the issues most important to you.
