NC teen bitten last week: #SharksAreStillGoodPeople
A North Carolina teen bitten last weekend by a shark took advantage of Saturday's World Oceans Day to proclaim her enduring love and respect for the ocean and to encourage others to get involved in environmental protection efforts.
Posted — Updated"World Oceans Day is June 8th and I'd like to ask everyone to get involved however they can to protect and preserve our oceans and all the life in it. I can't wait to thank you guys and join you in saving the environment," wrote Paige Winter in a statement.
She ended it with "#SharksAreStillGoodPeople."
Winter lost part of her leg and suffered injuries to her hands when a shark attacked her at Fort Macon State Park at Atlantic Beach. She is recovering in the hospital and said she will require more surgeries.
East Carolina Brace & Limb Co. posted to Facebook that it would provide Winter with a free prosthetic leg.
