RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina State University graduate is facing additional charges in connection with an assault earlier this month.

Kevin Chou, 23, of Raleigh, is charged with assaulting a woman with a skateboard at her home on Jarvis Street May 8.

According to police, when officers arrived at the scene, they found Chou sticking his head out the window of the home. When he let them inside, they found 44-year-old Kristin Byrd lying on the floor covered in blood. Authorities said her injuries were the result of an assault with a wooden skateboard.

On Wednesday, Chou was charged with two additional drug-related charges. Authorities said he possessed ecstasy and LSD at the time of his arrest, but it was not immediately clear if drugs played a role in the attack.

Byrd has been in an induced coma since the incident. Officials said she has undergone several surgeries and was listed in fair condition.

Chou's bond was increased to $450,000 as a result of the new charges.
