NC soccer club raises $50K for teen athlete paralyzed in boating crash
A soccer club has raised over $50,000 for a teenager who was paralyzed last week in a boating accident.

Both girls were transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where, according to her mother, McKenna was given the news that she would be permanently paralyzed from her chest down.
McKenna is an avid soccer player and a longtime member of the Carolina Rapids soccer club located in Cornelius.
"All she talks about since the news is that she can't play soccer any more – the game she’s trained her whole life for," her mother, Michelle, wrote in a group text to friends and family. "She might always have been that quiet girl, but she is determined, strong and hopefully a fighter; she will need us all going forward.”
According to Carolina Rapids executive director Thomas Finlay, the club launched a GoFundMe page on June 28. The goal was to raise $20,000 for McKenna's medical expenses, but, in less than a week, $51,646 was raised.
“McKenna is part of the Carolina Rapids family, and we will rally around her – and her family – and support them emotionally and financially,” said Finlay.
