NC School of Science and Math ranked No. 1 high school in America, Raleigh Charter among top charters

The study ranks schools nationally and by state. Here's now NC did.

DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics on Tuesday was recognized as the No. 1 best public high school in America.

Raleigh Charter High School also scored a top spot among charter schools, which are a subset of public schools.

This was the first time NCEM was ranked No. 1. It previously came in at No. 2 in 2021 and No. 4 in 2020, according to Niche.

Niche's report uses ratings from current students, alumni and parents combined with data from the U.S. Department of Education to assess for 92,743 public schools, 30,112 private schools and 11,820 school districts nationwide.

The report also ranks schools in each state. In N.C., the best public high schools according to Niche were:
  1. North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
  2. The Early College at Guilford
  3. Raleigh Charter High School
  4. Green Hope High School
  5. William G. Enloe High School

Enloe rose 11 spots from the 2022 report, Niche said.

The best private high schools were ranked:
  1. Cary Academy
  2. Durham Academy
  3. Providence Day School
  4. Asheville School
  5. Charlotte Country Day School
The best public school districts in the state were:
  1. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
  2. Polk County Schools
  3. Union County Public Schools
  4. Watauga County Schools
  5. Asheville City Schools

The top districts in the country were in Chicago, Long Island and New York City.
