A $4 million grant aims to help workers of the QVC distribution facility in Rocky Mount. A fire at the facility on Dec. 18 has been declared the "largest structure fire" in the history of the state.

"This new grant will help hundreds of former QVC workers get back on their feet. While we've already helped many impacted employees get new jobs, many others still need the training and services this new grant provides to help them with new careers," Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.

The grant is intended to help around 650 people living in a 10-county area, a press release from Cooper's office said.

Through the grant, eligible, dislocated workers can receive:

  • Career services which can help workers make better informed decisions about reemployment and educations, based on their local and regional economic conditions.
  • Training services which includes on-the-job training opportunities with area employers and classroom training at community colleges or other providers.
  • Support services which can help address barriers that may prevent workers from participating in employment and training.

Cooper's office said the state Department of Commerce's Division of Workforce Solutions, which requested the funds, will work with Turning Point Workforce Development Board and Rivers East Workforce Development Board to administer the grant.
