GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina man has been charged in connection to a string of murders that took place in March.

John Richardson, 53, from Greensboro, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder since he was first jailed on April 13.

At first, investigators believed that James Devon Goolsby, 38, went missing. But as investigators worked on the case, they started to suspect foul play.

Nearly a month after Goolsby was reported missing, Richardson was charged on Monday in his death. Goolsby's body was found in Henry County, Virginia.

Richardson is facing charges related to hiding or concealing Goolsby's body, as well as robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Richardson was first arrested on April 13 in connection to the death of Michael Hemphill. He was charged again on April 19 with another man's murder, Mark Anthony Gilbert Jr. Both of those men died by gunfire.

An alleged accomplice of Richardson's, Jonathan Murphy, was also charged with first-degree murder in Hemphill's death. Investigators believe Murphy was the one who pulled the trigger.

Police refused to respond to a WRAL News inquiry on what a possible motive was or if the three murders were connected.

A family member told WGHP that they believed Richardson is a "serial killer."

Richardson is being held at the Guilford County Detention Center without bond.
