NC man arrested, charged with sexual assault of child in 2017

John Emory Compton, 35, is charged with statutory sex offense with a child, indecent liberties with a child and distributing tobacco to a minor.

Durham police have arrested a man after they said he sexually assaulted a child in 2017.

In February 2022, police received a report of alleged sexual assault.

John Emory Compton, 35, is charged with statutory sex offense with a child, indecent liberties with a child and distribute tobacco to a minor.

Authorities released Compton on $100,000 bond. The Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office arrested Compton in Hertford, North Carolina.

Investigators believe Compton lived from 2017 to 2020 in Durham. Investigators believe Compton may have had other contact with other girls during this timeframe.
