RALEIGH, N.C. — Educators gathered outside the North Carolina General Assembly on Monday to highlight the needs of public schools.

Dozens of members from the North Carolina Association of Educators released their legislative agenda for the 2021 session.

NCAE President Tamika Walker Kelly said they are requesting immediate access to coronavirus vaccines for educators and more public school funding.

“Public school students and educators have been battered by COVID over the past year but have remained resilient. With the General Assembly back in session, it is time to start rebuilding,” said Tamika Walker Kelly, president of the North Carolina Association of Educators. “We need our legislators to seriously address a number of pressing issues now so we can properly prepare for next year.”

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Pruitt plans to discuss budget plans during a State Board of Education Meeting this Thursday.

Educators at NCAE's event on Monday said they are hoping to find some common ground with her.
