WILMINGTON, N.C. — As students, teachers and parents feel unease across the country following a mass shooting in Texas — one student in North Carolina is trying to restore a sense of security in the classroom.
A Wilmington Eagle Scout is aiming to make a difference by trying to make sure people are better prepared in a lockdown situation.

For Krish Mishra's final scout project, he decided to make classroom safety kits. The kits have taken him more than six months to make, and include stress balls, first aid kits, gloves and anything else needed to treat injuries.

Mishra distributed 62 kits to students at Rolland Grise Middle School on Friday. And although school is out for the summer, he's glad that the kits will be there when the new year kicks off in the fall.

"I just want kids to feel safe and comfortable at schools, rather than having to hear about all of these terrible things and having to be scared to go to school," he said. "I just want them to be able to come to school knowing that they're safe and secure."

His efforts are impressing school leaders as well.

"This project is something that really shows leadership on his part, and helps support our students," said Charlie Broadfoot, principal of Rolland Grise.

Mishra hopes his project encourages others to find ways to make a difference in their community - even if it's just something small.
