RALEIGH, N.C. — Parents: After the last 18 months, are you feeling a bit burned out as a caregiver? The N.C. Museum of Art has a program coming up for you.

Self-Care for Caregivers: Art Wellness Exchange with Hand Made Dreams is set for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 26, at the museum in west Raleigh. The cost is $15. Sessions also are planned in September and October.

Ashley Witherspoon, a therapist and founder of Hand Made Dreams, will be leading the program that will be geared toward parents and caregivers.

"The Art Wellness Exchange leverages art through storytelling to build mental health awareness and strengthen community connections," Witherspoon tells me. "Based on the perspective that individuals conceptualize the world through social interaction with others, we will apply this approach utilizing the arts as a sounding board to generate narratives to promote mental health wellness and drive connection through shared experiences."

During the sessions, Witherspoon will pull together mini groups within a gallery in the museum's West Building to reflect, share and learn from each other. More information and ticket details are on the museum's website.
