KURE BEACH, N.C. — Visitors are invited to tour the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher on Thursday, getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes look.

The tours will begin at 1:15 p.m., giving guests an opportunity to see animals closer than ever, including recovering sea turtles and baby sea horses.

Visitors will also see what it's like to run an aquarium.

“With so much to see at the aquarium in public view, we know it piques the curiosity of visitors about what it takes to run an aquarium of this size and we are always excited to elevate the experience with behind-the-scenes tours,” said Andy Gould, education curator.

The tour is available to anyone 8 and older, although children 8 to 14 must be with an adult.

Member pricing starts at $9, and standard pricing for the tour is $20 for ages 13 and older.

Standard museum admission is $12.95 for adults.

The aquarium, which first opened its doors 47 years ago, just updated its parking lot and the inside of the aquarium earlier this month with freshly painted walls, new carpet and a deep clean of all exhibits.
