RALEIGH, N.C. — The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences annual STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities is slated for later this month.

The event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the downtown Raleigh museum and is an opportunity for attendees to meet role models with disabilities who are thriving in careers in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. It's free, but registration is required.

Dr. Shaun Kane, a computer science professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, will serve as the keynote presenter. According to the museum's website, "Kane’s research focuses on the universal design of physical computing with his primary interests being accessible user interfaces and mobile human-computer interaction. His research explores ways to make mobile devices easier to use, especially for people with disabilities."

The event also will feature an opportunity fair where representatives from various businesses and organizations will host career booths, talk with students and share their own professional insights. More information, including registration details, is on the museum's website.
