NASHVILLE, N.C. — Nashville police are investigating the death of a 13-year-old who was found in the back of a burned apartment with a 53-year-old man on Monday.

The teenager, whose name was not released, and Joseph Christopher Williams, of 820 Rose St. in Rocky Mount, both died on the way to a local hospital, police said.

The fire happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. at an apartment on N. Lumber Street in Nashville.

It’s unclear if the teenager and man were related. The 13-year-old’s cause of death is under investigation, police said, and a medical examiner plans to do an autopsy.

Nashville police Chief Thomas Bashore says there is no further threat to the public. However, officers blocked N. Lumber Street in several places Monday as they investigated.

No other information was released.
