MIDDLESEX, N.C. — A homicide investigation is underway in South Carolina after the body of a Nash County native was found in a heavily wooded area in Myrtle Beach.

According to the Horry County Sheriff's Office, a runner found the body of 41-year-old Jennifer Fitchett Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Palmetto Pointe Drive and Palmetto Glenns Drive.

Authorities haven't released details about how Fitchett, a Middlesex native, died.

"Ms. Fitchett's family tells me she was a beloved daughter and mother of three. Her first grandchild is due in a few weeks," Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said in a statement released Sunday morning.

Neighbors in Nash County described her as generous and a lover of animals, especially her Yorkie, Leonard.
