ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A employee at a nails salon was hurt by a projectile from a BB or pellet gun during a robbery Thursday afternoon, Rocky Mount police said.

An unidentified, tall man entered Walnut Nails, 705 Walnut St., and was carrying what an employee described as a silver gun, police said. The man pointed the gun at the worker and demanded money.

When the worker stood still, the robber fired. The worker told police the gun didn't make a noise, but a projectile struck him on the ear. The worker suffered minor lacerations.

Nothing was taken during the robbery, and the man fled the store on foot, police said. He was last seen running west on Walnut Street.

Police determined the weapon used in the robbery was not a firearm, but a BB gun or pellet gun.
