The North Carolina Zoo will reopen Tuesday after Hurricane Florence forced the popular destination to close down for nearly a week.

The zoo announced on its Facebook page late Monday that the zoo would reopen Tuesday. It's open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily, with last entry into the zoo at 4 p.m.

According to the Facebook post, the zoo will offer free admission to Florence evacuees starting today, Tuesday, Sept. 18, to Friday, Sept. 21.

Evacuees, according to the Facebook page, must identify themselves as an evacuee at the admissions gate and provide proof of residency in either North or South Carolina for free entry for a party up to six. The zoo is in Asheboro, about 90 minutes from Raleigh. The zoo recently welcomed two baby rhinos, which are on view, along with about 1,600 other animals.

All of the region's other major family destinations have reopened, including Marbles Kids Museum, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences and the N.C. Museum of History. The Museum of Life and Science in Durham and Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill also are open Tuesday.
