N.C. State names three finalists for provost
North Carolina State University has narrowed its national search for a new provost to three finalists. Former Provost Larry Nielsen resigned last year amid questions of Mary Easley's hiring and promotion.

Warwick A. Arden has served as interim provost and executive vice chancellor since May 2009. He also served five years as dean of N.C. State's College of Veterinary Medicine, and he previously was on the faculty at the University of Illinois, the University of Kentucky, Michigan State University and the University of Sydney in Australia.
Robert T. McGrath has served in various roles with Battelle Memorial Institute and its affiliates, managing national laboratory acquisition, operations and university partnerships. Located in Columbus, Ohio, Battelle is a nonprofit science and technology development firm. He also has held faculty positions at Ohio State University and Penn State University.
Cathryn R. Newton is a professor at Syracuse University and former dean of the school's College of Arts and Sciences.
Former Provost Larry Nielsen resigned in May 2009 amid questions over N.C. State's hiring of former first lady Mary Easley to a high-paying faculty position and her subsequent promotion.
Questions about Easley also led to the resignations of former Chancellor James Oblinger and McQueen Campbell, the chairman of N.C. State's Board of Trustees.
The three provost candidates will undergo interviews during campus visits in the next two weeks.
