N.C. native killed in Afghanistan

A Winston-Salem man was killed Thursday while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, the military announced Saturday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was killed Thursday while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, the military announced Saturday.

Staff Sgt. Adam L. Dickmyer, 26, died of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device near Kandahar.

Dickmyer served with the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
