N.C. escapees caught in Georgia

Two inmates who escaped from a prison in Burke County Wednesday night were captured near Atlanta Thursday evening, the N.C. Department of Correction announced Friday.

MORGANTON, N.C. — Two inmates who escaped from a prison in Burke County Wednesday night were captured near Atlanta Thursday evening, the state Department of Correction announced Friday.

Brandon Curry, 21, and Justin Ramey, 23, escaped from a minimum-security unit at the Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, DOC spokesman Keith Acree said. They were caught driving on Interstate 20 in a truck believed to have been stolen from around Morganton, he said.

Ramey was serving nine to 11 months for felony breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and various misdemeanors. He was scheduled for release in July.

Curry was serving seven to nine years for robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. He was scheduled for release in January 2015.
