Multiple crashes caused a slow morning commute Monday in Durham.

An overturned vehicle caused slowdowns on 15-501 in Durham near Garret Road.

First responders could be seen climbing on top of a grey truck that had flipped over. Nearby, a red vehicle showed significant damage, and a traveling storage unit was laying on its side.

Crews managed to turn the truck onto its side, revealing a sunken roof on the driver's side.

WRAL News has not learned the condition of the drivers or occupants, but will continue updating the story with more details.

Another overturned vehicle on US-70 eastbound

Multiple vehicles crashed – including an overturned truck – on an icy bridge on US-70 eastbound near Lynn Road in Durham.

Several other cars, also involved in the crash, were on the side of the road.

At least four vehicles were involved in total.

Slick spots could be seen on the roadway as drivers slowly drove around the closed lane.

While WRAL News was on the scene of the crash, another vehicle crashed through barriers on another slippery part of the road nearby. The driver seemed to slip on the ice 360 degrees, then slide into the barricade into a closed section of a ramp.

This segment of US-70 is very icy, and it's advised to stay off this section of road until the warmth of the day can melt some of the ice.

Another crash closes all but one lane of I-40 westbound

Three right lanes and one left lane were closed on Interstate 40 westbound between the Page Road exit and I-540.

"Traffic just squeezing through in one lane between these two crash sites," said WRAL's Brian Shrader.

Traffic cameras showed traffic building on I-40 westbound, heading away from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and towards Research Triangle Park.

Crash causes delays on Durham Freeway

Another crash was reported on the ramp from the southbound Durham Freeway (N.C. Highway 147) onto I-40 eastbound. The crash appears to be on a bridge, and delays could be seen building behind the crash on N.C. 147.

"This is an indication this is probably a slick bridge," said Shrader.

Crash on Holloway Street ramp to US Route 70

Another crash was reported on the Holloway Street ramp to U.S. Highway 70 in Durham.

Ice has been reported on Aviation Parkway near I-40 on the bridge over the Brier Creek Reservoir, and WRAL's Aimee Wilmoth reported ice on I-40 near the Durham Freeway.

There were also several crashes on roads leading into RDU International Airport. In most of the cases, drivers were going slow and weren’t seriously injured, but we saw many damaged vehicles.

A Winter Weather Advisory was in place for the Triangle until 9 a.m. due to the icy roads and power outages remaining after Sunday's winter storm.

Conditions have begun improving since temperatures have raised above freezing, and major roads are starting to clear. However, secondary roads, especially in shady spots where the sun isn't melting the ice, could still have slick spots.
