One person killed, driver of tractor trailer facing charges, in multi-vehicle crash on I-95

A multi-vehicle crash on Saturday has delayed traffic on Interstate 95 in Johnston County in the Benson area.

BENSON, N.C. — One person was killed and the driver of a tractor trailer is in the Johnston County jail facing charges after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in the Benson area of Johnston County on Saturday.

Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol said eight total vehicles, one a tractor trailer, were invovled in the crash that happened near NC 242 and Exit 79. One person was killed when the tractor trailer hit the vehicle they were driving. Several others were injured and transported to local hospitals. There was no current update on their conditions.

Fire, EMS and other officials were on the scene for five hours to tend to the crash and conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash. Sky 5 flew over the area and traffic was backed up for up to a mile in both directions.

All lanes on I-95 were opened again shortly after 8:30 p.m.
