CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina entered the next step toward reopening the economy on Friday evening, bringing a flurry of new entertainment options and nightlife for locals.

Under the new phase, bars, amusement parks and movie theaters will come back to life – just in time for the weekend, but under some restrictions.

During the past several days, movie theaters have begun prepping for their debut.

For the first time since March, the Alamo Drafthouse and many other local theaters are screening movies.
Alamo Drafthouse kicked off Phase 3 with Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, as well as Hocus Pocus and Christopher Nolan's Tenet.
Meanwhile, in Chapel Hill, the Silverspot Cinema team is preparing for their first movie showing in seven months.

According to Sandra Pascual, a spokesperson for Silverspot Cinema, each ticket holder will have plenty of room to themselves.

"We automatically block out the two seats left of you and the two seats to the right of you. We have more than 8 feet worth of space in front of you and in the aisle," she said.

And for guests who are still uneasy about crowds, Silverspot Cinema allows groups to rent out a theater for only $99. Alamo Drafthouse has a similar offer, starting at $150.

Guests can choose whatever film they'd like to watch from a large list of selections – whether it’s a new release or an old classic they'd like to see on the big screen.

Of course, Alamo Drafthouse and Silverspot Cinema are far from the only theaters opening with Phase 3.

The Regal Cinemas chain opened its locations at Crossroads, North Hills and White Oak. Lumina in Chapel Hill reopened, and Cinemark said it will reopen the Raleigh Grande a week from tonight.
