SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Four Oaks biker was killed in a wreck on his way to a motorcycle-safety class Saturday morning, state troopers said.

Troopers said Stacy Glen Pittman, 37, was driving a 1995 Kawaski motorcycle south on College Road when a black Nissan Pathfinder turned left into an entrance to Johnston County Community College.

The Nissan struck the front of the motorcycle, and both Pittman and the bike went partially under the SUV, troopers said. Pittman was ejected from the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nissan driver – Brianna Solomon, 25, of Wildwood Lane in Smithfield – was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield. Troopers said that speed and alcohol were not factors in the wreck.

Pittman was about 500 feet from his destination when the wreck occurred.

Troopers said they handled the investigation because Solomon is married to a Smithfield police officer.
