RALEIGH, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night after a single-vehicle accident on South Wilmington Street between Mechanical Boulevard and the U.S. 70-401 split, Raleigh police reported.

The driver was identified as Edmanuel Jimenez Salgado, 19, of the 3600 block of Tuckland Drive in Raleigh.

A witness told police that the motorcycle and another vehicle were stopped at a red light on U.S. 70 and Mechanical Boulevard. When the light turned green, both vehicles accelerated, and the motorcyclist lost control and veered off the road.

The stretch of road was closed for about three hours as police investigated.
