Motorcyclist killed in Fayetteville crash

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a crash at the intersection of Hope Mills Road and Westgate Drive.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a crash at the intersection of Hope Mills Road and Westgate Drive.

Around 1:30 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the crash, which involved a 2004 Mercury sedan and a motorcycle.

Michael Rivas, 33, of Poplar Drive, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Rivas was driving a 2014 Honda motorcycle at the time of the crash.

Police said Taurus R. Perkins, also 33, of Oregon Court, pulled into Rivas' path and Rivas was unable to stop.

Perkins was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, unsafe movement causing injury to a motorcyclist, expired registration, driving with a revoked license and inspection violation.

Hope Mills Road was closed for hours in both directions. The road reopened around 6 p.m.
