Motorcyclist Killed After Hitting Deer

A 55-year-old Linden man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle hit a deer along Highway 401, about a mile north of Highway 217, according to Highway Patrol.

HARNETT — A 55-year-old Linden man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle hit a deer along Highway 401, about a mile north of Highway 217, according to Highway Patrol.

James Edward Byrd was thrown 160 feet after the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The deer also died in the accident.
