Motorcyclist identified who died in Fayetteville crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a vehicle that happened Wednesday night in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a vehicle that happened Wednesday night in Fayetteville.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Hope Mills Road just before 8 p.m. after a motorcycle and a vehicle collided. The motorcyclist, Jonathan Haywood, 31, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he died. The driver of the vehicle, Jose Lopez-Portillo, 19, was not injured.

Police said Haywood was driving a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle north on Hope Mills Road. Lopez-Portillo was traveling south when he turned left onto Redwood Drive and collided with Haywood's motorcycle at the intersection.
