FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A motorcycle driver is in serious condition at UNC Hospitals after losing control of his bike on Cliffdale Road, officials said Saturday.

Ian Hyder, of Fayetteville, was traveling down Cliffdale from Skibo Road/U.S. Highway 401 and lost control of his vehicle Friday night, police said. The bike struck the curb and a stop sign at Lansdowne Road.

Officials said Hyder sustained severe head injuries and was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The single-vehicle wreck caused serious traffic back-ups in the area, officers said. Crews took about two hours to clear the scene.
