RALEIGH, N.C. — One person was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 40 near Exit 303 for Jones Sausage Road.

The crash occurred around 2:15 p.m., closing the westbound lanes of I-40 for more than an hour.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist rear-ended a passenger car. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike.

Then, officials said, a second motorcyclist ran over the first motorcyclist and lost control. He was also ejected but suffered minor injuries.

Both drivers were transported to WakeMed. The first motorcyclist, a male in his 50s, died from his injuries.

The crash is under investigation. No charges were pending Monday morning.
