Mother shoots man after accusing him of stealing from her son, authorities say

A mother shot a man in his driveway after accusing him of stealing from her son in Thomasville on Saturday, officials said.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A woman shot a man in his driveway after accusing him of stealing from her son in Thomasville on Saturday, officials said.

Elva Hughes Skipper, 65, and Steven Criag Skipper, 44, confronted a man about stealing from them. The man drove his vehicle down his driveway and was shot by Elva Skipper, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the injured man drove into an intersection, opened his door, and fell on the ground. People driving by him stopped and called 911.

While emergency crews were giving the man aid, the Skippers assaulted him again, officials said.

Elva Skipper has been charged with felony attempted murder and felony conspiracy to commit murder. She was being held under a $2 million bond. Her son, Steven Skipper, was charged with felony conspiracy to commit murder and misdemeanor assault and battery. He was being held under a $1 million bond.

The man was treated at a hospital and is in stable condition, according to authorities.
