RALEIGH, N.C. — Mother’s Day looks different this year. From zoom calls and virtual gatherings, to figuring out ways to be creative during Covid-19.

"My mom lives in an independent living home," said Aniko Gaal, who wanted to make this Mother’s Day extra special for her 94-year-old mom.

With their masks on, Aniko pulled it off.

"One day she said I am so tired of feeling so imprisoned," Gaal said of her mother. "It’s a wonderful place but just not being able to get out, so I said, 'You know, for Mother’s Day, I am going to bring her outdoors.' We have our masks on, and we’re just going to keep our distance, but we’re going to be enjoying this day."

"In my 94 years, I never had that special of a Mother’s Day ever," Gaal's mother said.

Meanwhile, businesses across the state continue to struggle, specifically restaurants.

Missing holidays like today, Easter, Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick’s Day means less cash coming in, hurting their bottom line for the year.
