GODWIN, N.C. — A mother and child were thrown from a truck Saturday afternoon during a wreck in Sampson County.

According to the state Highway Patrol, Joel Santiago, 21, ran a stop sign and crashed into a car on Autry Mill Road, east of Interstate 95.

Santiago’s passengers, Michelle Wolfe, 30, and her 3-year-old son, Connor, were ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.

Paramedics transported Santiago, Wolfe and her child to Cape Fear Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Santiago was charged with running a stop sign, driving without a license, not restraining a child and having an open alcoholic container, troopers said.

Dunn Mayor Oscar Harris, 70, was driving the car that was hit by Santiago’s truck, troopers said. He and his wife were taken to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital as a precaution.
