Morning Colors

Glade Valley sunrise

I was a little disappointed with the fall colors this past weekend.  John and Debbie Neel joined Cindy and me for a Nature Conservancy hike up Big Yellow Mountain in Avery County on across the Appalachian Trail down the Overmountain Victory Trail into Tennessee.  The colors seem to be about a week later than last year.  The weather was wonderful and the hike was invigorating but I really wanted to see more autumn hues than were available. That was Saturday.  The picture I have included here was from Sunday morning just before sunrise outside my cabin in Glade Valley.

I took this picture with my new Canon wide-angle lens recommended by WRAL photographer Jeff Reeves.  The sky more than made up for the lack of autumnal leaf activity.  You can make out Pilot Mountain in poking up in the distance.

My father used to say that if you wanted to find God, go to the mountains and watch the sun rise.  Now I know what he meant by that.
