Morehead Planetarium celebration to benefit Robeson County planetarium
The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center celebrates International Science Center and Science Museum Day on Saturday November 10.
Posted — UpdatedScience activities and exhibits are planned for the whole family, along with presentations on the science stage. Three shows are planned in the full dome theater including a special one presented by Ken Brandt, director of the Robeson Planetarium and Science Center. I will be speaking alongside Brandt at 12:30 p.m. on the upcoming InSight mission set to land on Mars this month.
Like many buildings in the county, Hurricane Florence delivered another blow to the Robeson County Schools Planetarium and Science Center. Students returned to their classrooms a month later but the center on Canton Road in Lumberton remains closed. The planetarium's star projector was destroyed when rising flood waters from Hurricane Matthew toppled the delicate instrument. Mold left the rest of the 65-seat domed theater along with other science exhibits unusable.
You can help support this community and get a free ticket to one of the planetarium shows at Morehead on Saturday by bringing an item from this list to the gift shop:
- Cleaning Supplies
- Power Strips
- School Supplies
- Binoculars
- Science Kits
- Tennis Balls
- Science Dolls
A schedule of events along with more details on needed items are available on the Morehead website.
