Since health officials announced the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in North Carolina on March 3, how we live, work and interact has changed.

On Wednesday, the state marked a new milestone: More than 30,000 confirmed cases of the virus. In all, 30,777 cases have been confirmed in North Carolina. Across the country, more than 100,000 people have died of the disease.

North Carolina is approaching 1,000 deaths from the coronavirus. As of Wednesday afternoon, 954 people had died from the coronavirus.

On June 3, there were over 878 new cases of COVID-19 in the state. Also on this day, the Durham community is mourning the loss of a second grader who died after a long fight with the virus.

Aurea Soto Morales, a second grader at Creekside Elementary School, died Monday after she was hospitalized at UNC for complications from coronavirus.

North Carolina is current in Phase Two of its three-part plan to reopen the state while containing the virus.

Restaurants, salons, bars and many other businesses can open at 50%.

It's important to remember who we have lost. WRAL is remembering those who have lost their lives to the coronavirus through an online memorial.
