Moore County deputy dies from coronavirus complications

Deputy Eric Ritter joined the sheriff's office in May of 2018 as a part-time bailiff before becoming a full-time deputy in February of this year.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — The Moore County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday a deputy had died of complications from coronavirus.

Deputy Eric Ritter joined the sheriff's office in May of 2018 as a part-time bailiff before becoming a full-time deputy in February of this year. Before that, Ritter worked for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

The sheriff's office said they were "forever indebted to Deputy Eric Ritter for his lifetime of service."

Funeral arrangements for Ritter were pending.
