RALEIGH, N.C. — After weeks of debate, the annual Farm Bill finally made it through the Senate on Monday.

The bill, which now heads to the House, includes regulations for the hemp production industry in North Carolina, as well as provisions dealing with hog farms, shooting ranges at farms and branding North Carolina sweet potatoes.

The Senate also approved legislation that would University of North Carolina system campuses to sell alcohol at sporting events as long as the board of trustees approves the move. The bill is one House vote away from going to Gov. Roy Cooper to be signed into law.

In the House, Rep. Rena Turner, R-Iredell, is resigning to spend more time with her family.

Finally, Republican lawmakers have responded to allegations that they lied to federal judges about the existence of new voting district maps in 2017, saying the plaintiffs in a long-running lawsuit over gerrymandered maps is completely off-base.
