Monday Wrap: Electronics recycling mandate lives on

Looks like people will still have to recycle old televisions and computers.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Looks like people will still have to recycle old televisions and computers.

The Senate was poised to remove a section Monday from the annual regulatory reform bill that would have ended the state's ban on sending electronics to landfills.

Earlier in the day, the Program Evaluation Division recommended more pre-kindergarten slots in low-wealth districts to boost student performance, and a PED report showed that state officials mishandled a Hurricane Matthew recovery grant. The latter finding irked members of a legislative oversight committee.

A Senate committee also finalized recommendations to improve safety and security at state prisons, including higher pay for correctional officers and more mental health resources.
