Mom runs children's boutique from her home and yours
Alex Tutwiler, a mom of two, created La Boutique for Kids, which sells boutique children's clothing at discount prices at home parties and, now, online.
Posted — UpdatedAlex Tutwiler of Willow Spring was a stay-at-home mom more than three years ago when she was searching for a job that would still allow her the time and flexibility she wanted with her two boys.
La Boutique for Kids operates the same way a lot of home party businesses do. A hostess holds the party, invites her friends and family and receives incentives depending on how much is sold at the event. Tutwiler brings her clothes and inventory to the party, focusing on the sizes and genders that the shoppers at the party will be shopping for.
Tutwiler also will hold privates sales and baby showers, where the mom-to-be can make her selection and guests can buy on the spot. Tutwiler has held fundraisers for preschools. And she recently began selling her inventory online too.
Shoppers leave with what they bought. They don't have to wait for catalog orders to come in.
Finding cute boy clothes has been a particular focus for Tutwiler.
"It's really hard to find great brands and great clothes for boys," she said.
But she's managed to find a few, including Young Colors, a Colorado-based company that uses batik fabric and is one of her most popular brands.
It's music to her ears, she tells me, when she hears a shopper declare "Oh my gosh, that's so cute!"
