Editor's note: Raleigh Easter, the large egg hunt in downtown Raleigh, is this Saturday. And our very own Andrea, who has written on Go Ask Mom from time to time about her faith, is a member of Vintage21 church that hosts it. This year, organizers are making some changes and Andrea has offered to share what they are so everybody has a better experience. Read on ...
UPDATE: The hunt was moved on Thursday to Halifax Mall, which is a block north of the state legislative building in downtown Raleigh and is bounded by Lane, Salisbury and Wilmington streets. Click here for details on the move.
This is the third year for the Raleigh Easter Egg Hunt in downtown Raleigh's Moore Square. And if past years are any indication, it will be packed! It's from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Moore Square, which is across from Marbles Kids Museum.

Last year, the event was so popular that some kids left without eggs. In fact, my son didn't have a chance and was handed an egg by a volunteer. Vintage21 heard the message loud and clear and has tripled the number of eggs for 2011. In 2010 the event had 10,000 eggs. This year, there will be 30,000 eggs.

I had the chance to speak with Ethan Perkins, Vintage21's children's director, about some of the improvements that have been made for this year's event.

"Last year we had a few issues with people not getting enough eggs. At first we thought, 'let's double the order' but then we figured it's better to be safe than sorry,'" he said. "So we tripled the amount of eggs for this year's hunt. Our goal is that every kid goes home happy and with 30,000 eggs, we are confident that will happen."

Other changes this year include the addition of two registration tents to speed up the process as well as having more clearly marked hunting areas. They have also added a hunting zone for children with special needs.

If egg hunts aren't in your plans, Vintage21 is also opening its doors for a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday as well as hosting an Easter Sunday Celebration at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. After all, there is more to this holiday than chocolate and bunnies. Click to watch a video invitation from Pastor Tyler Jones and come on out to the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at 11 a.m. Sunday.

I will be there with my family. I hope you can join us!
