CONCORD, N.C. — A Kansas mother has found the kind young woman who helped brighten her daughter's holiday season.

Kayla Foster said her family was visiting relatives in the Charlotte area when her husband fell and injured his back. While Foster and her 7-year-old daughter, Molly, were waiting in the emergency room at Atrium Health, Molly broke down.

"She got concerned she wasn’t going to be able to see Santa and give him her list," Foster said. "She was very upset crying and just being the dramatic girl we all love. Trying to calm her down didn’t work. She wasn’t buying anything I said."

A young woman, who Foster later learned was Amber Wells, walked over to Molly and asked if she could talk to her. According to Foster, Wells bent down and spoke to Molly in a calm, soothing voice.

Wells pulled out a notepad and pencil and asked Molly to write down her Christmas wishlist to Santa. After Molly finished writing, Wells walked away with the list.

Moments later she returned and handed the list back to Molly.

When Molly unfolded the paper, she saw it had been signed by Santa Claus, and a beautiful silver ring was enclosed.

"She told Molly that Santa is watching all over the world. That no matter where she is, Santa sees her," Foster said. "That Santa tells her all the time what a sweet little girl Molly is. Molly’s face lit up so bright. She said she was headed to see Santa soon and she would make sure Santa knows that Molly is on the good list."

Foster said she began to cry as her little girl hugged the kind stranger.

According to Foster, Molly hasn't put the ring down since her encounter with "Santa's messenger." When Foster got back to Kansas, she reached out to WRAL and other local news outlets hoping to find the woman through social media so she could thank her for her selfless actions.

It turns out that Wells works as a real Santa's helper at Concord Mills Mall, and making children happy is more than a job to her.

"I love the joy I can bring by being Santa's elf," she told WRAL News. "Just to see a child smile makes my day so much better. You never know what someone is going through, and just a small act of kindness goes a long way."

"I still can’t believe what happened," Foster said, adding that Wells talked to Molly on FaceTime once the family found her.

"Her kindness needs to be shared to everyone around."
